Ultrasonic level meter is the use of ultrasonic reflection principle, measurement of atmospheric pressure and pressurized containers within the liquid level of non-contact measurement instrument. Can be used to measure the level and flow size of various containers or pipelines, can also be used for pools, canals, reservoirs, rivers, lakes and sea water level measurement. Measurement accuracy is high, easy to install and maintain, can measure water level, water level difference and flow rate at the same time. Resistant to scaling and bonding, the integrated temperature probe is used to compensate for temperature changes during the running time of the ultrasonic wave, and can be easily mounted with flange or thread.
Working Principle of Ultrasonic Level Gauge
Ultrasonic Level meter: its working principle is based on sound waves. By transmitting high-frequency pulsed sound waves, when the sound waves meet the surface of the measured liquid (such as water) is reflected, the reflected acoustic signal is received by the same transducer (probe) and converted into an electrical signal. The distance from the transducer to the measured liquid is calculated by calculating the time difference between the emitted and received ultrasonic waves and combining it with the propagation speed of the acoustic waves. It has high measurement accuracy and stability, and is capable of realizing millimetre-level liquid level measurement with a large measurement range.
Advantages and disadvantages of ultrasonic level meter
Compared with other kinds of level meters, ultrasonic level meter has the following advantages:.
(1) non-contact measurement, ultrasonic transducer installed above the liquid surface, not in contact with the measured medium, can easily measure corrosive, viscous or toxic liquids, to avoid being measured by the liquid corrosion or defacement, maintenance-free.
(2) good versatility, the level meter can measure the level of open channel, but also can measure the liquid level of large storage tanks and other liquids. Easy to install and dismantle.
(3) Adaptability, wide range of use, independent of the medium density, dielectric constant, electrical conductivity, etc., the physical and chemical properties of the measured liquid adaptability is extremely strong.
(4) Suitable for toxic, corrosive, high viscosity liquid level measurement, to make up for the shortcomings of other level meters in such poor measurement environment.
(5) Almost no mechanical movable parts, no wear and tear, long service life, light weight. The piezoelectric element in the transducer vibrates with acoustic frequency, small amplitude, long service life and good stability.
Disadvantages are mainly manifested in: when the measured liquid is volatile, the air density above the liquid surface is not uniform, which will lead to large measurement errors; when the measured liquid surface has a large wave undulation, easy to cause acoustic wave reflection confusion, resulting in errors In addition, ultrasonic level meter measurement of the level of the liquid level can not be avoided when the blind spot, so it is more difficult to measure the small distance.
Difference between one-piece and split ultrasonic level meter:
One-piece ultrasonic level meter integrates ultrasonic probe, signal processing unit, and display in one device. All measurement and control functions are completed in the same enclosure.
Easy to install: Due to its compact structure, only one device needs to be fixed during installation, eliminating complex wiring and installation processes.
Versatility: Suitable for use in harsh environments in a wide range of industrial environments, with protection ratings up to IP66/IP67, and a wide range of models available, such as corrosion-resistant and explosion-proof models.
Simplified Calibration: The one-piece design allows for simplified and efficient calibration of the device, often requiring calibration of the entire system rather than multiple separate components.
Integral ultrasonic level meter is commonly used in storage tanks, industrial wastewater treatment, chemical reaction tanks and shallow pools and other occasions.
Split Ultrasonic Level Gauge:
Split ultrasonic level gauge consists of probe and signal processing unit separately, the probe is installed at the measuring point, while the signal processing unit can be installed in the control room or other convenient operation position far away from the measuring point, and the two of them are connected by cable.
Strong anti-interference ability: after the probe and signal processing unit are separated, the signal processing unit can be far away from high temperature, high pressure or strong electromagnetic interference area, thus improving the measurement accuracy and reliability.
Easy to operate: Signal processing units usually come with larger displays and more operating interfaces, making it easier for operators to make adjustments and views.
Adaptable: the split design can adapt to harsh measurement environments, such as high temperature, corrosive gases or liquids in the environment, the probe can be made of special materials to withstand the conditions.
Split ultrasonic level meter is suitable for large storage tanks, level measurement of complex processes, high temperature or strong corrosive environment level monitoring and other occasions, especially suitable for applications that require remote operation or need to prevent the field environment interference.
Common Troubleshooting
When a fault occurs during the use of the ultrasonic level meter, troubleshooting can be carried out according to the following methods in order to deal with it quickly and correctly:.
(1) Check whether the line connection is correct.
(2) If the liquid level fluctuates violently, consider increasing the damping time appropriately.
(3)Whether the surface of the probe is splashed or has condensation, thus blocking the sending and receiving of sound waves;
(4) Check whether the liquid surface is piled up, floating foam, foam will bring adverse effects to the echo;
(5) Whether the liquid level into the blind range;
(6) Whether the power supply voltage is within the nominal range;
(7) Whether there is a source of interference around the level meter;
