An Portable Ultrasonic Flowmeter is a device that measures the flow rate of liquids or gases using the principle of ultrasound. It works by transmitting ultrasonic sound waves through the fluid. Portable Ultrasonic Flowmeter are non-invasive, meaning they do not require direct contact with the fluid, which reduces the risk of contamination. They’re widely used for measuring the flow of clean liquids, slurries, and even gases in industries like water treatment, chemical processing, and HVAC systems due to their accuracy, low maintenance, and ability to work with a variety of pipe sizes.
In your case, ARTang’s Portable Ultrasonic Flowmeter could provide tailored solutions for different flow measurement needs, offering flexibility in applications.
Portable Ultrasonic Flowmeter Working Principle
The measurement principle of the portable ultrasonic flowmeter is based on the time difference method. Two sensors are installed on opposite sides of the measuring tube. The two sensors transmit and receive ultrasonic signals alternately and measure the propagation time of the signals at the same time. When the fluid flows through the measuring tube, the propagation time of the signal in the downstream direction is shortened, and the propagation time of the signal in the upstream direction is prolonged. The two sensors measure the propagation time difference of the signal, and the time difference is proportional to the flow value.
Advantages of Portable Ultrasonic Flowmeter
- Non-contact measurement: Compared with other flow meters, ultrasonic flowmeter does not need to be inserted into the pipe to obtain flow data, avoiding interference with the fluid and improving measurement accuracy.
- Wide measurement range: DN20~DN6000 is suitable for pipes of various diameters, especially in large-diameter flow measurement.
- There are no moving parts in the measuring tube, no additional pressure loss; minimum maintenance workload and maintenance costs;
- The measurement principle is not affected by pressure, density, conductivity and viscosity, with high measurement accuracy and reliable performance;
- Wide range of applications: Portable Ultrasonic Flowmeter can measure fluids in different states such as steam, oil, gas, etc., and can be installed in various types such as channel type and clamp type.
- Good stability: Since ultrasonic flowmeter adopts non-contact measurement, it will not be affected by changes in fluid properties, such as temperature, pressure, viscosity, etc., so its stability is good.
- Easy to operate: Portable Ultrasonic Flowmeter usually adopts LCD display and key operation, which is easy and convenient to use and does not require special training.
What are the Factors that Affect the Accuracy of Portable Ultrasonic Flowmeter?
- Noise: Noise in the environment, such as mechanical noise, electromagnetic noise, etc., may have an effect on the measurement of the ultrasonic flowmeter. Noise interference can be mitigated by the use of soundproofing measures or filters.
- Scaling on the inner wall of the pipe: Scaling on the inner wall of the pipe can affect the propagation of ultrasonic waves, resulting in measurement errors of the ultrasonic flowmeter. The solution is to use a cleaning device to remove the deposits inside the pipe.
- Ambient Temperature: Changes in ambient temperature may also affect the measurement accuracy of the ultrasonic Flowmeter. This can be calibrated by using a temperature compensation method.
- Electromagnetic interference: In workplaces with complex electromagnetic environments, electromagnetic waves may interfere with the measurement signal of the ultrasonic Flowmeter. This can be minimized by using filters to isolate stray signals.
- Pipe Vibration: Pipe vibration can cause errors in the flowmeter. To mitigate this interference, a compensator or reinforced pipe support can be installed.
