At a large metal ore beneficiation plant in China, precise slurry flow measurement is required during the beneficiation process to ensure production efficiency and product quality. The slurry has a high solid content and contains corrosive substances, making traditional flow meters unsuitable for the application. As a result, the plant decided to use a slurry-type electromagnetic flow meter for flow measurement.
Measurement Requirements
- The main component of the slurry is solid particles, with a content of 60%. Due to the strong abrasive effect of solid particles and iron filings on the pipeline, the lining material needs to have high wear resistance.
- Pressure Resistance: The fluid pressure in the slurry transport pipeline is relatively high (around 10 MPa), so the electromagnetic flow meter must have sufficient pressure resistance.
- Explosion-proof: Since there may be an explosion hazard in the mining environment, the equipment must be designed with explosion-proof functionality.
- Corrosion and Abrasion Resistance: The slurry often contains solid particles and chemically corrosive components (such as sulfides, metal oxides, etc.), so the flow meter’s lining and electrodes must possess excellent corrosion and abrasion resistance.
- Anti-interference Ability: Due to the complex working environment in the mine, the electromagnetic flow meter must have strong anti-electromagnetic interference capability to ensure stable data.

After in-depth communication with the customer, the solution was finalized: a slurry electromagnetic flowmeter with high pressure resistance, explosion-proof capability, and excellent corrosion resistance. The lining and electrodes are made of special materials that can withstand the abrasion of solid particles in the slurry and the corrosion of chemical substances. The design meets explosion-proof requirements and adheres to high safety standards for the mining site.
Slurry Electromagnetic Flowmeter Meet These Demands
The slurry electromagnetic flowmeter is suitable for various standard process applications involving corrosive and abrasive liquids (especially slurries). It can measure liquids with a solid content of over 80%. Even under harsh process conditions with temperatures up to +180°C / +356°F, low conductivity (≥5 µS/cm), and high solid content, it can provide reliable flow measurement.
